The head of the judges in this case was the president of the Tribunal, Julia Przyłębska. The law in question allowed for abortion in the case of a high probability of the fetus suffering from an untreatable disease or if the child had low chances of surviving birth. In such cases, abortion was allowed up to the birth of the child. Many pro-life communities wanted to change this law due to the high number of abortions performed on children with Down syndrome. The ruling caused a lot of controversies among women, many of whom protested in front of the Tribunal today. The issue highly divides the Polish society, as many people point to the fact, that human lives need protecting, while others state that it's the mothers who should have the final say on what happens to their own bodies and the children they carry inside. For now, the pro-life communities have a reason to celebrate, but the matter is surely far from over.
