The ceremony was attended by representatives of the President, Prime Minister, government, Polish Parliament and local authorities.

Jarosław Kaczyński emphasised in a letter - read out during the ceremony by the MP of the Law and Justice party, Krzysztof Tchórzewski - that Friday's event was special because the first monument commemorating “a great Pole, an outstanding statesman, an unyielding patriot who devoted his entire life to the sacred cause of freedom of our homeland” was in Okuniew.

"He was one of the greatest figures of the Polish opposition and later - after Poland regained independence - one of the most outstanding figures of Polish public and political life" – stressed Kaczyński.

The Leader of the Law and Justice party thanked those who contributed to the creation of the monument in Okuniew. During the ceremony, letters addressed by President Andrzej Duda, Speaker of the Polish Parliament Elżbieta Witek and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki were also readout.
