According to a report by Gazeta Prawna daily, former NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, has said the Nord Stream 2 gas link is a disaster for the whole of the European Union. After completion, the project will pump 55 billion cubic metres of gas to Germany from Russia via the Baltic Sea, bypassing Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States. The European Union had spent 5 billion Euros on diversifying energy supplies in a bid to reduce dependence on Russia, and Nord Stream 2 would be an unnecessary step backwards. The paper also cited Rasmussen as saying that Russia was trying to disrupt European and transatlantic unity.
