In 2007, fewer Poles perceived their membership of the alliance positively - 72 percent. The latest Pew Research Centre report states that NATO is generally perceived positively by societies of allied countries, despite persistent tensions between leaders of individual countries. 53 percent of respondents of member countries express this opinion about NATO. 27 percent express a negative opinion. The highest support for NATO among alliance members is in Poland (82 percent) and the lowest in Turkey (21 percent). In the United States it is 52 percent and in Germany 57 percent. The study was also carried out in three non-member countries. Swedes and Ukrainians perceive NATO positively (63 percent and 53 percent, respectively), but only 16 percent of Russians say the same.
